The
„bodega” – originally meaning a sort of small wine shop – is for most of the Romanian
villages the only form of entertainment, their only escape from everyday life. Lacking
other cultural or social establishments, the bodega becomes an important place
for the community, the site where people meet, talk, drink, enjoy the company
of others, share their thoughts and problems, where they laugh. With jobs in
agriculture at an all-time low, some people end up spending a lot of their time
in there.
